Lydd, TN29 - Lydd Town Railway Station
Lydd Town Station (originally known as Lydd Station) opened in 1881 and closed to passengers in 1967 leaving the line through the station to remain open for freight. The line , branching from the Ashford to Hastings route went down to Dungeness.A second branch was opened later from a point just south of Lydd to New Romney & took passengers from Appledore to Lydd Town, Brookland, Lydd Camp, Lydd-on-Sea, Greatstone, New Romney and Littlestone. The line remains open through Lydd Town as far as a siding near Dungeness for freight traffic to transport atomic waste from the nuclear power plant at Dungeness.
The main station building and goods yard remain in an empty and derelict state, having been used as a vehicle repair workshop until the mid-1980s. Nearby Lydd airport is to expand over the years and there remains the suggestion that this line could be revived to provide a link between and the airport and Ashford International.

Dungeness, TN29 - Dungeness Railway Station
Dungeness was the terminus of the Lydd branch from Appledore which opened in 1881. The railway terminated almost at the foot of Dungeness lighthouse where very basic facilities were provided in the shape of a single platform on which was perched a small arched roof weather-boarded shed comprising a ticket office, waiting room and ladies and gents toilets.
The promoters of the line had hoped that linking Dungeness with London by rail would lead to its development as a port from which cross-channel steamers could operate to the small French fishing port of Le Tréport, 60 miles distant though this failed to materialise and the area remained remote with few passengers and Dungeness Railway Station closed in 1937.
The station site and trackbed is still undeveloped with degraded remains of the buildings and timber platform after years of coastal erosion. Many of the shacks scattered around the southern end of Dungeness arrived in the 1920s when Southern Railway workers purchased old rolling stock which were dragged off the end of the line to be used as holiday shacks.
